BOSPORUS

Bosporus is inseparable part of Istanbul. City lays both side of it, Europea and Asia. It is one of the biggest natural channels in the world in between two seas, Black Sea and Sea of Marmara and it is known as the strait of Istanbul. The world’s narrowest strait used for international navigation, it connect Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara which is connected by the Dardanelles to the Aegean Sea and thereby to the Mediterranean Sea.

It is about 32 km long natural salty water. Its maximum width is 3.420 m and minimum 704 m where the two fortressed of the city were built and the second Bosphorus Bridge stands. The name comes from Ancient Greek words bous and poros means of ‘passing a river, ford, ferry’’. It is international water way which connects Black See to Mediterranean See.
Only way to city from outside and try to feel its spirit is to take a Bosphorus Cruise.
