GRAND BAAZAR

The Bazaar was first constructed in 1464 by the order of the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II, the Conqueror. In the later centuries, the streets around bazaar complex were also covered and added to the same structure and the complex was turned into the most important trading center of the city. In the past each lane was reserved for a different profession and the handicrafts produced there were rigorously controlled.

Grand Bazaar is one of the largest covered markets in the world with its 4400 shops, 3000 firms, 17 Hans (separate inns for specific type of products), 64 streets, 25.000 employees, 4 fountains, 2 mosque, 22 gates and more than 50 thousand visitors everyday. It's a real heaven for shoppers and a good opportunity for people to discover the Turkish hospitality. You can find all types of jewelry, fabrics, weaponry and antiques were sold by merchants whose expertise in the trade went back for generations.
